Horse racing has been the sport of royalty for thousands of years. Modern horse racing flourishes now because of its gambling aspect. In the U.S., horse racing is the second most widely attended spectator sport, second only to baseball. Horse racing is also a professional sport in numerous other countries. The first place is the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland which is the oldest place. It is one of the famous horse track for having the race the Preakness Stakes held there every year. It was started in 1873 for their first winning colt named Preakness. This Baltimore track is also known for the place where Seabiscuit beat War Admiral in 1938, and that exciting story was made in a major motion picture. Not only was horse racing done there but the Virgin Festival took place there from 2006 through 2008 with a two-day festival.

Saratoga racecourse was built by William Travers and the first Chairman of the Jockey Club, John Hunter. It opened last August 3, 1863. It is located at southernmost foothills of the Adirondack Region in New York City, and it’s the oldest venue that uses any sports in the United States. Saratoga racecourse is mostly active only for horse racing starting on July until September yearly. In this race track, they are running three separate tracks in their main course. First is the Main Dirt Track, second is the 1 Mile Outer Turf Track and last is the Inner Turf Track. Other than these three tracks, they also run other races like Graded Stakes Races.

Penn National Horse Racing was organized by a group of civic leaders from Central Pennsylvania, Penn National Race Track was opened on 30th of August year 1972. The total average number of people who visited their opening was about 10,686 people. This race track is a premium thoroughbred horse racing track that is located in Grantville Pennsylvania. It is oval shaped with 990 feet in length, 1.6-kilometer dirt course, and a 7-furlong turf course.

Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup Handicap was held in this race track that was only opened for horses three years old and above. After some years of running Penn National, the owners thought of something new. Aside from offering some year-round thoroughbred calendar, simulcast wagering, and excellent facilities to all horse racing fans, they thought of adding slot machines to this place. So their slot machines or casino was started, and they called it Hollywood Casino, that just recently opened last February 12, 2008. A lot of people who visited Penn National found it very enjoyable. Last but not least is the Churchill Downs located in Louisville, KY. It is known for holding horse racing event like Kentucky Derby which is one of the famous horse events in the USA. The buildings still look like something out of the fifties, and the well-kept facilities make you feel as if you have walked back in time and are experiencing a virtual reality of a past period. Perhaps you have seen 1950s movies depicting that era, and you would feel right at home and on set sitting in the stands at Churchill Downs.
